Artist Statement

I’m taking the world I want to live in, from my head to real life. My inner world started from my childhood drawings and summer craft projects. Curious creatures fill my mind and beg to come out and play. I craft to let everyone engage with these friendly lovable critters. Toys bring out the child in everyone. So, what could be better than sculptural, toy-like artwork, to let children and adults interact with fine art?

Kids from toddlers to preteens exhibit unrestrained happiness. As we become adults, we are expected to restrain our emotions. Silly things that used to make us smile are written off as immature. My Dragons and Whimsical creatures lift that restraint - whether you’re an adult or a kid - they spark that childish smile of happiness across one’s face. Seeing my soft shapes and bright colors draws people into the world of childhood.

My inviting cartoon style brings viewers into a state of ease, like watching a favorite childhood cartoon on Saturday morning. The comfort of being around these pieces is so great that they want to touch the artwork. While standing in the museum, all anyone ever hears is “look but don’t touch!”. I will not stand for that - art is to be enjoyed. This is why not only can my pieces be touched, but these wonderful materials in fine art forms are also “huggable” (at the right size).
